Multiple religious sites are the major tourist attractions in Kurukshetra.
Brahma Sarovar
Brahma Sarovar

Brahma Sarovar is one of the most sacred and famous pilgrim places for tourists in Kurukshetra. According to Hindu mythology, this sarovar (water pond) was created by Lord Brahma, the creator of earth. There is a huge rush of devotees on this sarovar during Gita Jayanti celebrations held in late November – early December timeframe every year. Sight of floating earthen lamps in water is amazingly beautiful. During solar eclipse also, this sarovar is highly crowded as it is believed that taking a dip in the holy waters of Brahma Sarovar during solar eclipse wash off all the sins.


Sannihit Sarovar
Sannihit Sarovar

Sannihit Sarovar is believed to be the abode of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that seven sacred Saraswatis meet at this sarovar. There is huge rush of devotees here on Amavasya (completely dark night) who come here to take dip in the holy waters. People also perform prayers for the dead on this sarovar. 


Jyotisar
Jyotisar

This is the place where Bhagwad Gita was born and Lord Krishna delivered the lessons of Karma and Dharma to Arjun. On the site, you will also see a sacred Banyan tree, under which it is believed that Lord Krishna took his Virat Roop (universal form) to preach Bhagwad Gita to Arjun. The tourism department here regularly organizes a light and sound show which recreates the episodes from Mahabharata and highlights some aspects of Geeta Saar. 


Krishna Museum

Krsihna Museum was established in 1987 and displays the artefacts related to Lord Krishna. These artefacts portray different forms of Krishna, the incarnation of Vishnu. You will also see huge paintings depicting the battle of Kurukshetra. 


Bhishma Kund
Bhishma Kund

On the tenth day during the war of Mahabharata, Bhism Pitamah felt very thirsty. To quench his thirst, Arjuna pierced an arrow into the ground to eject water. Bhishma Kund (water reservoir) is the same place from where the water ejected and quenched the thirst of Bhishma. 


Kalpana Chawla Planetarium
Kalpana Chawla Planetarium

The famous Indian American astronaut and the first Indian woman to be in space, Kalpana Chawla was killed in 2003 when she flew in Space Shuttle Columbia. In her memory, this planetarium was built in 2007. Lots of people including students and teachers visit this planetarium during their trip to Kurukshetra. 


Other attractions in the city are Birla Mandir, Harshwardhan Park, Bhor Crocodile Park and Pipli Mini Zoo.
