Pushkar

Pushkar is a pilgrim place so; most of the tourist attractions here consist of temples and religious spots. While visiting the attractions, beware of the priests and touts as they might mislead you to make money.
Pushkar Lake
Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Lake is the most sacred lake in Pushkar and the city owes its name to this lake. This lake is also the major tourist attraction in the city. It has 52 bathing ghats where huge numbers of devotees gather to take dip in the holy water of this lake. During the occasion of Kartik Poornima, lacs of devotees come here to take the dip and it is believed that who se ever takes the dip in the lake during this timeframe ultimately achieves salvation.

The prayers held on the lake side during evening are a treat to watch.

Brahma Temple
Brahma Temple

The Brahma Temple is located close to the Pushkar Lake. This temple is believed to be 2000 years old and is the only temple dedicated to Hindu God Brahma. It is believed that the first consort of Lord Brahma, Goddess Saraswati cursed Brahma that he would only be worshipped in the Pushkar city. That is the reason why there are no other temples of Lord Brahma.

This temple has the idols of Lord Brahma and his second consort, Gayatri. Large numbers of devotees visit this temple during Kartik Poornima, the full moon day of Kartik (October) month. The famous Pushkar Fair also starts on this day.

The temple walls have beautiful paintings of peacock which is considered to be the vehicle of goddess Saraswati.

Savitri Temple
Savitri Temple

This temple is dedicated to the first consort of God Brahma, Goddess Saraswati also known as Savitri. The Savitri temple is located behind the Brahma Temple on the top of Ratnagiri Hills. You have to climb lot of stairs built on the hill to reach this temple. From the top, you can get panoramic views of the Pushkar Lake and the Sand dunes.

Gayatri Temple
Gayatri Temple

This temple is dedicated to second consort, Gayatri, of Lord Brahma. The temple is located on top of the hill opposite the Pushkar Lake.

Apteshwar Temple
Apteshwar Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to have been created by Lord Brahma himself. On the occasion of Shivratri, huge numbers of devotees gather here to worship Lord Shiva.
