GOA CARNIVAL- EXPERIENCE “VIDESH” AT YOUR OWN “DESH”!!! Jan 23, 2014

Always wanted to attend a Carnival of foreign land but never had sufficient time to go for it? Well, there’s no need to be disappointed anymore! Because, now you can have the same kind of experience here at your own country. The answer to all your dilemmas is the very famous “Goa Carnival”. The Goa Carnival takes place every year in the month of February (mostly). The carnival extends over four days from Saturday preceding “Ash Wednesday”, whose date varies from year to year. This year (2014) the much awaited Goa Carnival is taking place from 01st to 04th of March.

The “Goa Carnival” can easily be called as the time of the year which every resident of Goa and even the other party lovers all around the world literary breaths for! It is the time of the year from when everyone descends upon this little state. Life for four days here, is an endless spring party, characterized beautifully with the street dances, float parades, mask parades, and of course the much good cheer and even better food and wine! If you a party lover, or someone who has got tired of his monotous life or just someone who wants to experience a different side of the India; “the wild, crazy and the party animal spirit”, well then this is definitely something which you cannot afford to lose upon.  If you are first time visitor, we assure you will be thunderstruck with the brilliance of colours all around you, the never ending spirit of the crowd as they cheer at the parades, the outrage of colorful fancy dresses, the delicious fresh sea foods stalls, the musical evenings, the every night concerts, and you can never miss on the ‘hangover’ floating in the air itself with the smell of the very famous “Goanese Fenny” and “wine”.  Breath into this air and take a good look around you , you will see folks clad in outrageous costumes, including a bunny tail painted on their shorts, people twirling on their clown wigs, the squeal of the babies as they are being lifted onto the shoulders of ambitious fathers determined to give them a bird’s eye view of the carnival. One thing for sure, you are definite to feel it’s your homecoming to your long extended family. The essence of “belonging” floats in the air and ties you up with the strings of love and affection. When, you are here be sure NOT to miss out on the Carnival Parade. The procession of the “King Momo: the lord of chaos”, the dazzling beauties dancing nearby, the various mask dancers, and the fancy dress competition is truly a treat for your eyes.

Well, when at the Goa Carnival, you certainly don’t want to be out of place among the whole crowd, right? So, just dig into and absorb the true essence of the carnival. It’s time for some carnival shopping! Head straight to the 18th June Road where you will get abundance of clown wigs, masks and face paints. Go ahead, paint whiskers on your face! Don’t be shy. Dance around, eat, drink and make merry. Don’t forget to dress up before you step out on the streets at the nightfall. All this together certainly makes Goa the most luring place to hit this spring.
