Janaki Temples

Dedicated to Sita (also known as Janaki), there are two temples in the town, each claiming to be the spot where Janak found Sita. One of the temples has a holy pond called Sita Kund which is great for sightseeing in Sitamarhi.      


Haleshwar Sthan
Haleshwar Sthan

One of the popular temples in the town, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to the legend, King Janak started tilling the land after establishing an idol of Shiva at this spot.


Panthpakar

The holy site houses an old banyan tree under which Sita rested while travelling to Ayodhya after getting married to Lord Rama. 


Nageshwarnath Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple at Pupri is an ancient religious site visited by a huge number of religious tourists.

A pilgrimage site for Muslims, it is a great experience to enjoy peacefulness here.


Other must visit places at Sitamarhi include Deokuli (home to an ancient Shiva Temple and also believed to be the birthplace of Draupadi), Bodhayan Temple, Bagahi Monastery, Shukeshwarnath Temple and Sitakesh. Festivals and folk dances like Jhinjhari enhance the tourism worth of the place.
