Tawang – The Fitting Representative of Northeast Grandeur
Among the most invigorating summer destinations in India, Tawang at an altitude of about 3,050 m. is Arunachal Pradesh’s very own paradise. Blessed with nature’s fascinating canvas where numerous Buddhist monasteries are scattered as gems, this picture-perfect town near the Indo-Tibetan border has a lot to reveal. Its most favourable aspect is its weather which is amazingly pleasant during April.

Nature’s Sightseeing
Surrounded all over by charming nature, Tawang is famous for its marvellous waterfall called Bap Teng Kang or BTK. The crystal clear waters and serene environment make it worth spending hours at this natural vista away from chaos. Another incredible site is that of P.T. Tso Lake, promising commanding views of spotless greenery.

Heritage Exploration
India’s largest and the world’s second largest Buddhist monastery finds home at Tawang. Popularly called the celestial paradise on a clear night, it was founded nearly 400 years ago and accommodates architecturally magnificent structures. Some invaluable Buddhist scriptures, manuscripts, books and artefacts, along with the 8.3 m. high Golden Buddha statue are the major highlights of the monastery. An elaborated tour in and around Tawang will let you discover many other Buddhist religious sites (including the birthplace of 6th Dalai Lama).

Trekking Adventures
Amidst breathtaking nature and fresh air are numerous trekking routes, some extremely challenging, while others for pure leisure. Explore the untouched rural countryside and sleeping villages that can leave you overwhelmed. You can also buy Buddhist and Tibetan souvenirs and enjoy traditional cuisines like thupkas, momos, gyapa khazi and monpa.

The town is accessible by road and the popular modes include buses, cars and motorbikes. The town of Tezpur (about 380 km. away) has the closest railway station as well as the nearest airport.
