West Bengal to Receive Face Change for Tourism

Last year’s trailer of ‘Beautiful Bengal’ was only a signal. The state is actually gearing up to experience the boost in tourism and it is evident from some of the recent developments. West Bengal, the east India state known for its colonial structures, rich culture and mouth-watering sweets, has its potential as a tourism destination untapped. The recent participation in World Travel Markey is an indication that now the world will be introduced to some very interesting but hidden facets of India.

Bishnupur Temple Complex
The state’s tourism authorities have taken the right step by considering this noteworthy hotspot in its latest tourism campaigns. At the recently held International Heritage Week at Bishnupur, there were talks about the place’s makeover to promote it as an international tourism hub.

What’s so exclusive about the temple complex? Once under the powerful Gupta Dynasty, Bishnupur got its claim to fame in the 17th and 17th centuries when it was adorned with beautiful terracotta temples. Depicting classical Bengal architecture, these wonderful structures testify skilled craftsmanship.

Pancha Ratna Temple, Jor-Bangla Temple and many others are admired for depicting scenes from the great epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Each temple is dedicated to a different Hindu deity and is thronged by devotees and architecture lovers alike. Located about 135 km. from the state capital Kolkata, Bishnupur deserves extensive promotion to shine on the world tourism map. The place is also popular for its handicrafts in the categories like silk sarees, pottery, bell metalware, terracotta jewellery and other artefacts.

The state is full of many similar wonders and it is expected to showcase them at the international level very soon.
