Rann Utsav – Mosaic of Cultural Vibrancy on White Salt Desert

 
As the nature rolls the white carpet over the Great Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, the ambassadors of vibrant cultural heritage of the region adorn it with myriads of colours. And then begins the captivating Rann Utsav which lasts for over 3 months and leaves behind the memories of a lifetime. The extravagant cultural bonanza is about to begin in 2014 and here’s everything you wish to know as the probable visitor.

Uniqueness of the Festival
The salt desert land, after surviving the scorching summer heat and being in the captivity under monsoon waters, emerge as the pure and the glistening white canvas in the winter. Luxury tents are set up at various places in the desert and the grand celebrations of art, craft, music, dance, food and adventure commence. Thousands of visitors from across the globe head towards the region; stay at the luxury tents and get overwhelmed by the activities and inimitable display of artistic and heritage display.
 
Activities at Rann Utsav

  •  The best time to enjoy the festival is on the full moon nights when the moon-washed desert acquires mesmerizing traits. A camel safari on such a night is tremendously stimulating. Star gazing is another soulful experience.
  •  Surrender yourself to the array of adventures, including ATV riding, tandem bicycling, para motoring, Velcro wall climbing, helicopter joy riding, archery and many more.
  •  Enjoy the absolutely amazing folk music and dance performances. Relish the delectable cuisines of the region and don’t miss the remarkable handicrafts in various categories.
  •  Kite Flying Festival is another highlight. You may also plan to celebrate New Year, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Holi (the festival of colours) during the 3-4 month long festival.
  •  Sightseeing trips to Bhuj, Kala Dungar (Black Hill, offering panoramic views of the region) and the wildlife destinations of the region.
 
Planning the Visit
Schedule: December 01, 2014 – March 5, 2015
Access: The festival venue is close to Bhuj, which can be easily accessed by road, rail and air.
Permits: Strictly required and can be obtained at Gujarat DSP Office at Bhuj or from the check post at Bhirandiyara Village (must be produced to the army officials at the entry point)
Costs: INR 100 per person and INR 50 per vehicle. Accommodation at tent may cost between INR 11,000-16,000 per tent.
