Puri Rath Yatra – Watch the Lord of Universe on Grand Procession

Rath Yatra (known all over the world as Car or Chariot Festival) is an internationally acclaimed Hindu festival. Dedicated to Lord Jagannath (another name of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu) or the Lord of Universe, it is a community festival that registers the presence of people from all religions and several regions. It is one occasion on which non-Hindu devotees seek the blessings from the lord, who otherwise resides inside Jagannath Temple, strictly accessible to the Hindus only.

Festival Highlights
Idols of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Balarama and Subhadra are taken on grand processions in huge chariots fitted with dozens of wheels. The journey begins from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple on the first day of the festival. The idols reside there for 7 days after which they are brought back to their original abode.

It is firmly believed that participation in the procession to drag the chariots with ropes can open the doors of heaven. A magnetic atmosphere is created during the procession, with attendees engaged in dancing and prayers. Interestingly, numerous foreigners can be spotted in the traditional Indian clothes, enthusiastically taking part in the celebrations.
