Festival Special

Ten Days of Empowerment in India in October

Summer in India is about to bid an adieu. The usually alleviating monsoon downpours were rather distasteful this year. It is the time when all physical and mental balances need to be restored with the help of the universe’s divine cosmic energy. According to Hindu beliefs, Goddess Shakti in its different manifestations comes into force at this time to empower the earth against negative influences. And this calls for the celebrations of festivities like Navratri, Durga Puja and Dussehra.

Celebrated within the span of 10 days, these majestic festivals represent good’s triumph over bad. Though the whole of India unites to observe the celebrations with exceeding zeal and zest, there are specific destinations where the real magic of these festivals unfold. Festival tours of India are the perfect opportunities to explore these destinations in a completely different way.

Grand Scale Navratri Celebrations
Different cities of Gujarat become the favoured tourist destinations during Navratri. The biggest highlights of the nine-day long festivity are the energetic dance forms Garba and Dandiya-Raas. Men and women wearing colourful traditional clothes dance tirelessly for hours on loud music beats. Mumbai is another popular Navratri destination where numerous music and dance events are organized. Vegetarian food including snacks and sweets add to the delight.

Spectacular Durga Puja Celebrations
The last four days of Navratri are devoted to Durga Puja, celebrating Goddess Durga’s victory over demon Mahishasura. West Bengal and Odisha are the two popular venues where the festival instils high-level enthusiasm in people. Huge clay idols of the Goddess are made, painted and ornamented beautifully and worshipped during the festival. Assam, Jharkhand and Bihar are other states that draw tourists in huge numbers to enjoy the celebrations.

Extravagant Dussehra Celebrations
Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of the festive season and it signifies Lord Rama’s victory over demon King Ravana. For the most fabulous experience, you need to be at Mysore where lavish processions are organized. It is a lifetime experience to watch embellished elephants, camels and horses leading the processions, followed by crazy music bands, dance troops and fervent audiences. While in North India, watching Ramlila (stage illustration of Ramayana) is definitely a treat.

Plan to be a part of these celebrations that would begin from October 5 this year. It is going to be one of the most memorable expeditions of your life.
